Date: Monday, July 6, 2026– Friday, July 10, 2026 | Time: 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM | Ages: 8-12
Embark on a delicious adventure across Asia in this hands-on summer cooking camp designed for curious young chefs. Each day, Passport to Asia campers explore the bold flavors and colorful traditions of Asian cuisine as they prepare three to four recipes inspired by regions such as Thailand, China and beyond. Kids build confidence while learning essential culinary techniques, from safe knife work and seasoning to stir-frying, steaming and balancing sweet, salty and spicy flavors. They’ll create snacks, lunch and desserts while discovering new ingredients and techniques. The experience culminates in Take-Out Friday, when campers prepare a flavorful dinner for four to take home and proudly share.

CLASS DETAILS
Signing Up
The sign-up link above will direct you to the registration page for this class, which will allow you to sign up through our booking system. If you have a gift certificate, there will be a place to enter your certificate information on that page. Your registration is official once you have received a confirmation email from our system (be sure to check your spam folder if you don’t see it). If you have signed up for a class and have not received a confirmation email, please email info@figcookingschool.com so we can help you out. Please also feel free to email us if you have any questions about the booking process.
Workshops are subject to cancellation if there are less than 10 participants enrolled.
Please be honest when providing us with information about your child. We cannot accept children under 8. We NEED to know your child's allergies, as certain allergies may not be compatible with this learning environment. While not a barrier to participation, we also appreciate a heads-up about any learning difficulties or interactive challenges your child may have.
Workshops are not refundable under any circumstances, out of fairness to all families. We have a limited number of spots, and we set one aside for your child when they register. If your child is unable to attend, you may transfer your reservation to a friend.
Location & Parking
All of our classes are taught at our teaching kitchen at 42 Naugatuck Ave, Milford. You can park across the street or on any of the surrounding streets. Please do not park in the 15 minute zone directly in front of our building.
Cancellation
Fig classes are non-refundable for any reason. Tickets are valid only for the event purchased and cannot be transferred to another event. We are a very small business and make many crucial decisions, staffing in particular, based on how many people are coming to a class. If we didn’t know how many people were coming to each class, we would quite simply go out of business and would not be able to guarantee steady work for our team members. If you cannot attend your class, you are more than welcome to send somebody else in your place. Should you miss your class and not send someone else in your place, we will automatically send you the recipe packet within several days.
Gifts
A Fig experience is a perfect gift for a friend, loved one, or business associate. However we strongly recommend buying gift certificates rather than signing up somebody for a class as a surprise, since this often results in schedule conflicts. Per our cancellation policy above, classes are non-refundable for any reason, and giving a gift certificate allows the recipient to choose a date that works for them, and avoid disappointment.
Dietary Restrictions
Give us a call before signing up so we can discuss your options! Some of our classes are vegetarian or pescatarian, or can be made so with small adjustments if we have advance notice. We may be able to accommodate other restrictions if given prior notice. That said, please ask about accommodations and dietary needs before signing up for your class, as we cannot guarantee that adjustments can be made for every class, and signups are not refundable, nor can reservations be moved to another date. Please note that our kitchen is full of dairy, gluten, and nuts, and that we cannot accept responsibility for these or any other food allergies. Our kitchen is not Kosher.
Inclement Weather Policy
We are committed to keeping our classes running as scheduled as long as it is safe to do so. In the case of minor inclement weather (i.e. rain or light snow) the class will run as scheduled. In the case of extreme weather (i.e. heavy snow, or other dangerous weather) the class will be rescheduled and you will be alerted via email. In the event that a class is postponed due to inclement weather, we will schedule a make-up date and alert all participants. In the event that your class is rescheduled due to inclement weather and you are unable to attend the make-up date, please let us know up to 48 hours after we notify you of the new date, and we will give you a gift certificate equal to the value of the postponed class, to use at a different class of your choosing.
Age Restrictions
All kids in attendance MUST be at least 8 years old. If we find out that you lied about your child’s age, we reserve the right to un-enroll your child without a refund
Health
Please tell us about ALL allergies, dietary restrictions, and relevant medical or health conditions (both physical and emotional).
We recommend contacting us in advance so we can discuss if our workshops are right for your kid. Please note that there are many allergies we cannot confidently accommodate and many health conditions that we may need to educate our staff on in advance.
If you have any questions or concerns about whether our workshops are a good fit for your kid, PLEASE call us so we can chat.
If your kid needs to take medication during the day, medicine must be given directly to staff to be distributed at the appropriate time. Please be sure to disclose all instructions for use and deliver written permission for administration. Medicine must be in its original container and labeled with the child’s name.
If your child is sick, keep them home. The danger of spreading diseases to other students is escalated by the fact that our classes are completely hands-on. Please keep them home until they are symptom-free for 24 hours.
If your kid becomes sick during the day, please come pick them up immediately.
Meals
Snacks and lunch are included in workshop tuition. Please make sure your kid eats breakfast before they arrive, as it may be some time before our snack is ready. Water is always available.
If your kid is a picky eater, you may want to send along a backup lunch, as we will not be able to alter the meal to accommodate picky eaters.
In the event that your kid doesn’t eat their entire meal, they are welcome to bring their leftovers home. Please note that we will not be able to provide food to take home in the event that the kid does eat their meal.
Arrival / Pickup
Drop off is promptly at 9:00. We will not be able to open the door more than 15 minutes early. Pickup is promptly at 2:00, since we often have events afterward. If you need to pick up your kid early, please let us know, since we may be at the beach! Please note that if you have to pick up your child early, we cannot guarantee that food made during the workshop will be ready by then.
In the event that you are stuck in horrific traffic, or otherwise unavoidably late, please let us know as soon as possible!

Safety and Discipline
In addition to providing a fun workshop experience and instilling the passion for food in all participants, one of our primary goals is to teach kids how to behave responsibly in a kitchen environment. Respect both for instructors and fellow students is crucial to ensuring that we can provide a fun, safe environment for all participants. We are working in a professional kitchen, around heat, knives, and many breakable objects. Additionally, any misstep in the recipe will affect the experience (and lunch!) of all students. The ability to listen to instruction and respect rules is absolutely crucial. Rules, instructions and safety guidelines will always be made clear to students.
Please note that we do not allow our youngest students to work with knives, and allow older students to work only with paring knives, and only under strict supervision. Any indication of inability to behave responsibly around knives will result in immediate confiscation, and all future knife privileges will be revoked for the safety of your child and fellow students.
In the event of disciplinary issues, or dangerous behavior, we will address it with the student. More serious issues will be discussed with parents at the end of the day. If we find that a student is being continually disruptive, disrespectful or dangerous, we reserve the right to un-enroll them from the workshop without a refund. Any physical aggression will result in immediate removal from workshop without a refund.
If your child has a medical or emotional condition that may make it difficult from them to follow these guidelines, please discuss it with us prior to enrollment so we can determine if our workshops are a good fit.
We do not allow electronic devices during our workshops, as they are disruptive, and one of our primary goals is to facilitate meaningful engagement between attendees. Children may bring phones to call parents, but must keep them stowed away during the day.
If you have any questions about our safety policies, please contact us prior to registration, as all enrollments are non-refundable.
Field Trips and Other Activities
Some of our workshops feature off-site activities. In most cases, this will mean a trip to beautiful nearby Walnut Beach, but we may take trips to nearby farms, stores or restaurants. We will always give you a heads-up if our journeys take us further than the beach. We will go to the beach every day that time and weather allow.
On beach days, please ensure that your child brings sunblock. They are welcome to bring a towel as well. We will let you know if there is anything else they should bring.
