Virtual Kids' Camps

cooking camps for kids

We are bringing our famous kids camps online! Taught through Zoom using our 100% hands on method and designed for all experience levels, kids will explore new techniques and flavors and build their culinary confidence. Stay tuned for 2020 listings!

General Information

Parental Supervision
Parental supervision is mandatory for kids under 13, and recommended for kids of all ages, as we will be cutting, using heat, and using raw ingredients which must be fully cooked. The Fig Cooking School, LLC does not assume any responsibility for injury incurred while taking our virtual kid’s camps.

Registration
Registration is to be completed online through our booking system, since there are important questions we need answered.

Workshops are subject to cancellation if there are less than 10 participants enrolled.

Please be honest when providing us with information about your child. We cannot accept children under 12. While not a barrier to participation, we also appreciate a heads up about any learning difficulties or interactive challenges your child may have.

Workshops are not refundable under any circumstances, out of fairness to all families. We have a limited number of spots for our hands-on virtual experience, and we set one aside for your child when they register. You will automatically be sent a recording of your class, so if you are unable to attend the live class, your child will be able to cook along at their leisure later.

Ingredient List + Recipes
An ingredient list will be sent to you a week before the class, or with 24 hours of signup if you sign up less than 7 days before. You will receive all recipes no less than 24 hours before the class.

Accessing the Class

Your class will take place via Zoom. A link, along with detailed instructions for access, will be emailed to you a minimum 24 hours before the class is scheduled to begin. We recommend downloading and familiarizing yourself with Zoom here at your earliest convenience.

Age Restrictions
All kids registered MUST be at least 12 years old. We have made this issue out of concern for safety, since we cannot fully supervise each child – nor the meal they are cooking individually - if they are not actually in our kitchen.

If we find out that you lied about your child’s age, we reserve the right to un-enroll your child without a refund.

Health + Dietary Restrictions
When cooking along with our virtual classes, you are more than welcome to make substitutions as necessary. Please note that many substitutions will alter the final outcome of the recipe. If you have any questions about making substitutions, please feel free to reach out to us. While we will be mindful of any allergies disclosed to us, and recommend substitutions where applicable, it is the responsibility of the parent or guardian to ensure that children do not cook with or consume anything they are allergic to.

We recommend contacting us in advance so we can discuss if our workshops are right for your kid, especially as there are health conditions that we may need to educate our staff on in advance.

If you have any questions or concerns about whether our workshops are a good fit for your kid, PLEASE call us so we can chat.

If your child becomes sick and cannot attend the live workshop, we will send a recording so they can cook along at their leisure later.

Meals
Your child will be making lunch and snacks during the class. Many menus will make enough food to share with the family. If your kid is a picky eater, you may have a backup lunch on hand.

In the event that your kid doesn’t eat their entire meal, they are welcome to bring their leftovers home.

Arrival / Pickup
Our class will begin promptly, so we recommend logging on five minutes early so as not to miss any of the action.

Safety and Discipline
In addition to providing a fun workshop experience and instilling the passion for food in all participants, one of our primary goals is to teach kids how to behave responsibly in a kitchen environment. Paying attention to instructors and fellow students is crucial to ensuring that the class is fun and safe. Rules, instructions and safety guidelines will always be made clear to students.

In our kitchen we do not allow our youngest students to work with knives, and allow older students to work only with paring knives, and only under strict supervision. In virtual classes, it is the responsibility parent to do any cutting the child is unable to safely do, and reinforce knife safety practices.

If your child has a circumstance that may make it difficult from them to follow these guidelines, please discuss it with us prior to enrollment so we can determine if our workshops are a good fit. The safety of our student is our top priority.

We do not allow electronic devices during our workshops, as they are disruptive, and one of our primary goals is to facilitate meaningful engagement between attendees. We ask that parents reinforce this rule at home.

If you have any questions about our safety policies, please contact us prior to registration, as all enrollments are non-refundable.
